President's Message
Spring 2010

Bob Yaap '69

The second biggest event that WPSOC holds each year is the Summer Social.  This year it is scheduled for August 21, 2010 from 5-10 PM at the O’Neill Museum in San Juan Capistrano.  It is a great chance to mix with classmates and other grads in a beautiful part of Orange County.  Please go to the Society’s website (www.WPSOC.com) and sign up.

A lot has been going on at West Point in the last few months.  The class of 2010 has graduated and are just beginning their branch schooling.  The class of 2014 has entered West Point and is now half way through Beast Barracks.

The Supe, LTG Buster Hagenback,’71 has retired after 39 years of active duty in service to his country.  As a Society, WPSOC sent him a thank you for the many accomplishments, awards and changes made under his leadership from 2006 through 2010 which were numerous.  His replacement as Supe is LTG. David H. Huntoon, Jr ’73 and he assumed command on July 19, 2010.

The new Dean is BG Timothy E. Trainor. ’83.  He previously was Professor, Department of Systems Engineering at the Academy. He replaces BG Pat Finnegan ’71 who retired this past May.  Bios for both the Supe and Dean can be found at (www.westpointaog.org). The next event after the Summer Social that WPSOC will be holding will be the Army Navy Football Game Watch on Dec 11, 2010. We are planning an all Army grad (and guests) event at the Corner Office in Costa Mesa again.  It will be a repeat of last year’s event, which so many of you commented that you really enjoyed.  More to come on that event! I will be heading to the annual West Point Leadership Training Conference in mid-August to represent you and learn what is new at the Academy.  I hope to pin down a date and speaker for our Founders Day event (I’ll be pushing for the new Supe) for this coming March.  I will summarize the highpoints in my next newsletter. In closing, I salute the West Point grads who are waging our wars around the world right now.  I know a lot of you younger grads in WPSOC have just returned from multiple tours overseas and we thank you.  Many of you older grads have children serving in the military and we ask you to thank them for us.  May our country appreciate the sacrifices being made by the men and women of our armed services.  We keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Sign up for the Summer Social & Go Army!
